Living room of your dreams for under $1,700
Living rooms can be overwhelming because all the pieces that go into them. I’ve have gone into spaces where the coffee table, entertainment center and the side tables are all matching as well as the couch and side chair. While this is an easy, safe route, I find it charming and cozier when the pieces compliment one another but do not match. Also living rooms can be expensive! I could go into Pottery Barn and spend 10K on a living room set easy. Designing a room on a budget is a little more difficult but just as rewarding.
This is a living room I pieced together from some of my favorite places to shop on a budget including World Market and Target. The prices reflect the sales that were happening at the time I wrote this post, so the total cost may fluctuate depending on sales.
I like this room because it is functional, practical, masculine with a soft touch, and neutral. I love to keep things neutral to help the look last longer. It is easy to replace accessories to add pops of colors and textures, where replacing a rug or couch adds up much more quickly.
One of my favorite things about this living room is the media center mixed with the side and coffee table. The media center is very angular with its rectangle shape and zig zag pattern on the front. It’s a little harsh, but the finish gives it a softness and nice texture. The tables are round which breaks up the angles and really adds interest to the room. The clock and table lamp also bring in the nice rounded features.
For the couch I would loosely drape one or two of the nice textured light gray throws to add some texture and softness. On the coffee table, I would place a large hard cover coffee table book and maybe a vase or my favorite candle. I would also place a nice chunky weaved basket next to the side chair with a throw inside. On the side table, I’d place the lamp, my favorite 4×6 or 5×7 photo in a wide frame and the book I’m reading. A great candle would look great on a table too. To see my favorites, click here.
